It was on December 2013 when we were contacted by the costumes crew working for the production of the movie Everest, theatrically released by Universal Pictures in September 2015. As you probably know, if you have already seen the movie or its trailer, this movie directed by Baltasar Kormákur deals with the events that happened on an expedition on Mount Everest in 1996 and the relationship between men and nature.

What has Baruffaldi to do with this just released movie?

Erich-Abram-Lino-Lacedell-001The connection between Baruffaldi and the climbing expeditions go back to the middle of the 1950s. In 1954, Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, wearing a pair of Baruffaldi’s goggles, are the first men in history to conquer the K2 summit. In 1973, Baruffaldi’s goggles and masks are part of the equipment the climber wear on the expedition, led by Guido Monzino, to ascend Mount Everest. That is why this mountain and Baruffaldi are a binomial that has lasted for years and that still endures nowadays, even if we have shifted during more to the motorbike sport sector in the last years.

That is why we have been contacted by the movie production… to recreate the scenography of ascensions on the Himalaya you need a pair of Baruffaldi goggles!

The masks and goggles we have provided for the Everest production are the following models: AnnapurnaSpeed 4MafMatyz, SastaSaratSutra, ByvyTyban

It is our opinion that this movie deserves to be seen, not only because of our equipment, but because it is a well done movie, inspired by a series of incredible events that really happened during the climb to the summit of the highest mountain of the world, the EVEREST. The movie document the adversities met during the trip of two different expeditions that are pushed to go beyond their limits and resist the strongest ice storms ever confronted by men. The courage of the teams will be put to a hard test by the most cruel of the four elements, where the climbers will have to confront the limits of the impossible, as the obsession of an entire life that transforms into a breathtaking fight for survival.
